Amateur to tee off alongside 'idol' Scott at PGA

GOLF: West Australian amateur Curtis Luck will get another chance to rub shoulders with the sport's greats at the Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast, starting tomorrow.

After playing alongside eventual winner Jordan Spieth at the Australian Open, the 21-year-old will tee off with Adam Scott for the first two rounds at Royal Pines.

"Adam Scott has been kind of an Aussie idol I guess for me since I started, growing up playing golf. To be playing with him this week it's extremely exciting and I'm obviously very fortunate,” said Luck, who led the Open after the first round.

"I'll let Adam do his business and then we'll have a bit of a chat ... maybe even get some lunch at some point during the week.”

Luck has won the WA Open and US and Asia-Pacific amateur tournaments this year, but would love to claim the PGA crown - and the two-year European Tour exemption that comes with it.

"It's such an amazing opportunity for anyone in the field this week. To be able to come away this week with a win and obviously have a tour card for the following year would simplify my life a lot, it's a great kick-start to your career as a professional,” he said.

"I'm pretty close to deciding that I'll turn pro most likely after the Masters next year.”
