Devils proud of Wondai efforts

GYMPIE's junior rugby league stars got a taste of representative football last weekend with a proud performance at the Wondai Rugby League Carnival.

Close to 90 Devils juniors from under sevens through to under 12s took part in the tournament, with Gympie placing third overall in the competition.

Gympie Junior Rugby League promotions officer Rob Murray said the carnival, which involves league sides throughout southern Queensland, provided young rugby league players the chance to test their skills against new players.

"It was very good for the children of that region to play against out children and by the same token it was good for the under sevens through to 10s to get interaction with players outside of their club competition," Murray said.

One team each from the two under sevens and under eights sides finished third in their divisions, while the under 10s finished fourth overall after winning three out of their four games.

Murray said both under 12 Gympie sides performed extremely well, with the Gympie One side losing to eventual winners Blackbutt and the Gympie Two side defeating grand finalists Kingaroy.

He said Gympie were looking forward to competing in the carnival next year.
