Baby bonanza brings joy all round
WHAT a July it must have been.
In the cold, dark depths of winter, the baby boom evidence from this month clearly shows that Gympie people found their own way to keep warm last year.
Gympie region has experienced an April baby bonanza, with a little help from the doctors and midwives, a spokeswoman has confirmed.
It is a real boom time at Gympie Hospital this month - a baby boom that is.
Nurse Unit manager of Maternity, Women’s Health and Paediatrics, Shaneen Osborne says the hospital has experienced a real baby bonanza this month.
And the month is not over yet.
Ms Osborne says the hospital’s maternity unit normally delivers 30 babies a month.
“But we have already had 42, with more on the way this weekend,” she said.
“The busiest days this month were April 7 and 13, when there were four babies delivered within six hours of each other on each day.
Yesterday she said hospital figures going back more than 40 years showed a record of 52 births in January, 1977.
“There were 49 births in October 1997, 47 in June 1995 and February 1988 and 46 births in August 1981 and March 2002.
“Next month there are 33 mothers booked in.”
