Best light displays in region

THE Sunshine Mitre 10 Christmas lights competition has drawn to a close for another year.

The region has come alive with colourful lighting displays celebrating the festive season.

The winners have also been announced.

Debbie Weier was awarded the best home category with her spectacular display.

Bec and Josh Cook were a favourite with the kids, taking out the children's choice category.

The best new home winners were Elwyn and Lorraine Cumner of Southside.

Mr Cumner said he and his wife have always displayed their Christmas lights but they never intended to be in the competition.

"We didn't even realise we were entered," he said.

"Our son and daughter-in-law did it without actually telling us."

It is much deserved recognition for the couple who have been committed to decorating their home since they were married.

"We have always put lights up," Mr Evans said.

"It started with the Christmas tree and it has grown from there with the grandkids.

"It's a tradition now and I'm always buying more lights.

"The family gets together and the kids help us put everything up.

"I have far too many lights to tally now but they all go up as part of the annual display.

"We love to see the kids' faces when the lights go on.

"That gives us a great deal of joy too."

The light displays will stay up for the duration of the festive season so make sure you get the family together and check them out.
