'Bloody idiot': Top cop slams driver's 0.343 reading

SUNSHINE Coast's top cop has labelled a woman a "bloody idiot" for two high-range drink driving charges, the worst a reading of 0.343.

Katy Anna Williams, 42, of Coolum Beach, fronted Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 24, charged with two counts of high-range drink driving.

Williams' first reading of 0.343 was at Noosa Beach on November 11, 2018 which saw her fined $1800 and disqualified from driving for 18 months.

Her second reading of 0.234 on May 29, 2019 resulted in a crash and she was also charged with driving without due care.

For that she copped six months' imprisonment, wholly suspended for 18 months. She was further disqualified from driving for 24 months.

Sunshine Coast District Superintendent Darryl Johnson said Williams was a "bloody idiot".

"To drive under the influence of alcohol at that high is astounding. You put yourself and other road users in danger," Supt Johnson said.

"It's incredulous having someone driving that intoxicated.

"In reality you wouldn't be able to see the road or react. Significant readings mitigates any likelihood of being able to respond (to anything)."

Supt Johnson said both instances could have easily resulted in tragedy.

"Hell," he said in response to the second reading.

"That is certainly not the behaviour we expect to see of our road users. Not the behaviour we loved ones expect and not the behaviour community expects."
