Breezy conditions forecast for Mackay coast
SOUTH-EASTERLY winds will whip up across the Mackay region today.
In its Mackay coastal waters forecast for Bowen to St Lawrence, the Bureau of Meteorology expects a large high over northeast New South Wales to move slowly eastwards and extend a firm ridge along the tropical east coast.
“The ridge will begin to weaken during Friday as the high weakens and moves over the southern Coral Sea,” a Bureau spokesperson said.
In Mackay, south-easterly winds of 15-20 knots will decrease to 10-15 knots during Friday afternoon before turning easterly in the evening.
Inshore winds will be south to southwesterly at 10-15 knots in the early morning, turning east to northeasterly with afternoon sea breezes south of Sarina.
On Saturday, winds will be easterly about 10 knots tending southeasterly 10-15 knots during the afternoon.
Easterly about 10 knots tending southeasterly 10-15 knots during the afternoon. Inshore winds variable below 10 knots in the early morning, tending north-easterly 10 to 15 knots with afternoon sea breezes south of Sarina.
