WATCH: Port Alma Rd now open to traffic following rollover
UPDATE 8.22AM: THE Department of Transport and Main Roads has advised that Bajool's Port Alma Rd was reopened to traffic last night around 9pm following the truck rollover yesterday morning.
UPDATE 4.29PM: RESIDENTS on Port Alma Rd have not been allowed to return to their homes yet while fire crews work to make the area safe.
Road closures are expected into the night on Port Alma Rd.
Port Alma is still accessible via Marmor.
No update was available for the condition of the truck driver who was transported with minor head injuries.
UPDATE 1.45PM: POLICE, fire crews and SES volunteers are still on scene at Bajool where a B-double carrying ammonium nitrate is on it's side.
Authorities confirmed the road will remain closed to traffic until around 8pm tonight.
Fire crews are helping dilute the product to prevent any further hazards.
UPDATE 11.40AM: POLICE have evacuated four homes in the Bajool area as a precaution to the chemical spill.
Authorities confirmed 12 people had been asked to leave their homes just to ensure their own safety while the site is cleaned up by fire crews.
All traffic is open to the Bruce Hwy but Port Alma Rd remains closed with diversions in place.
Traffic diversions are expected to be in place until about 8pm tonight.
UPDATE 9.27AM: CAPRICORNIA District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Ralph Faria said the traffic diversions around Bajool could be in place for the next 24 hours.
"The area is being handled by fire crews," Snr Sgt Faria said.
"There's a 1km crash site and diversions around the area. We're In the process of making plans to salvage of the product on the truck."
UPDATE 8.50AM: FIRE crews are on scene and are currently coordinating a clean-up of the chemical spill.
Authorities confirmed no one has been injured as a result of the incident and a fire has not broken out.
The clean-up is expected to take a while and traffic closures are expected to be in place throughout the morning.
POLICE are at the scene of a single truck rollover on Port Alma Road, Bajool. Initial investigations suggest that the incident occurred around 5.40am this morning.
The male driver was not injured.
The truck was carrying Ammonium Nitrate and an exclusion zone has been declared as emergency service crews work to contain the incident.
Traffic diversions are in place and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
