Cooran singer and guitarist knocks over X Factor judges
COORAN singer Jimmy Davis disarmed the XFactor judges Monday night with his personality, and then won them over with his talent.
The 21-year-old from Cooran is through to the next round of the reality singing show, thanks to his surprising rendition of The Beatles' Oh Darling.
"I wasn't sure what to think," judge Guy Sebastian said.
"There was a guy who kind of looks like Kenny G singing The Beatles.
"The minute you opened your mouth I was like, 'Man, your voice is incredible'."
Judge Chris Isaak was equally impressed with Davis, who performed locally at the recent Maroochy Music and Visual Arts Festival.
"You walk out and you're really a likable guy," he said. "You took a Beatles song - everybody's heard that song - and you made it your own. Awesome."
Davis took up guitar after finding he had a talent for the video game Guitar Hero.
He won the Voice of Noosa in 2012 and has gone on to record and release his own original music, including the single Be Kind, as well as performing at the 2013 Caloundra Music Festival.
Davis will next progress to the boot-camp round, where he will have to compete for one of just five spots in the Boys Under-25.
