COUNTRY women across Queensland are lobbying Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce to ban the import of fresh Fijian ginger.

The Queensland Country Women's Association's annual conference in Gympie today called for the federal government to rescind its earlier decision to ignore the advice of its own Senate committee to allow imported ginger, "despite having no scientifically proven bio-security measures to prevent or treat a virulent roundworm that could threaten Australia's ginger, banana, pineapple, citrus and potato crops.
