Death trap: Resident calls for speed limit drop

A HINTERLAND resident says the pothole-riddled road outside her property is a potential death trap as cars rush by at the 100km/h speed limit.

Marie Pryce, who has lived along Ringtail Creek Rd at Ringtail Creek for 13 years, fears the road will eventually cost someone their lives.

She said the road was used as a shortcut linking motorists to Cooroy and she often saw motorists "slide around corners and lose control".

However Noosa Council said the road was regularly monitored and that maintenance was carried out when required.

The default speed limit for all gravel roads in not built-up areas is 100km/h.

Ms Pryce wants it dropped to at least 60km/h.

"The sad reality is that someone might be killed, the road is really dangerous," Ms Pryce said.

"It's really bad, full of holes and a lot of bends where you can't speed around.

"You see them (other motorists) coming from the other direction and they lose control and are in your face."

Noosa Council's acting infrastructure services director Craig Eldridge said it was up to motorists to adjust their speed to the individual road's conditions and factors such as weather in order to drive safely.

Ms Pryce said she esd concerned for wildlife at a neighbouring koala sanctuary.

"The condition of the road is constantly deteriorated, it's ridiculous," she said.

Mr Eldridge said motorists should constantly be on the look out for local wildlife on gravel and sealed roads.

"All motorists can help keep koalas and other animals safe, particularly at night, by driving a little slower and being a little more vigilant when driving," he said.

Ms Pryce said a cheaper alternative would be for the council to profile the road with a grader.
