Demolition crews move in on Glenvale eyesore

A RECOGNISED eyesore in Glenvale will be no more after demolition crews moved in this week.

The long-abandoned house on the large block at the corner of Glenvale Rd and Greenwattle St has been reduced to a pile of rubble.

It is understood the demolition is the first step to be taken by land owner Coles Property Group.

WHAT'S ONLINE TODAY:

The company would not disclose future plans for the site with regards to the development of a shopping centre which received council approval in 2007.

A spokeswoman for the Coles Group said more information would be released at a later date.

"At this stage, we're still assessing plans for the Glenvale site," the spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said work would begin at the site as the company secured and ultimately cleaned up the area.

Development delays on the proposed The Glen shopping centre have plagued the site since it was approved seven years ago.

Coles Group purchased the land in June this year and has yet to reveal whether it will continue with the construction of the shopping centre.
