Dickfos selected for South Queensland squad

GYMPIE Gold captain Kaden Dickfos has been selected for the South Queensland cricket team after competing at the 2015 SQCC Schaeffer Shield Carnival at Ipswich on the weekend.

Dickfos was one of five players from the Gold that competed on Saturday and Sunday with Dean Chandler, Lewis Waugh, Steve Brady and Brycen Mitchell all representing Wide Bay.

Dickfos said they lost their first one-day match against South East Queensland. South East Queensland made 240 runs with the bat and bowled Wide Bay all out for 120.

"None of us really performed well in that game except Dean Chandler, who got two wickets," Dickfos said.

On day two, Wide Bay made 186 runs against the Sunshine Coast. Brady scored a quick-fire 26 and Dickfos contributing his own 36.

"The game got washed out after we bowled 16 overs," Dickfos said.

"There was no result in the end."

Dickfos was the only player from Gympie to be selected for the South Queensland team that will now play North Queensland in the next two weeks at Northgate playing fields at Brisbane Grammar in Brisbane.

"None of us did as well as we were hoping to - we hoped to do a bit better than we did individually," Dickfos said.

"It is a different ball game at that level."

"Hopefully, the boys will be better for it."

After the results from the weekend the two teams Wide Bay played finished on top. South East Queensland was the top team and Sunshine Coast runners-up.

"Playing against top level competition shows the boys that this is the level we have got to be at."
