Driver crashes at nearly 10 times legal alcohol limit

A WOMAN has been charged with an alleged blood alcohol reading nearly 10 times the legal limit after a crash near Coffs Harbour in January.

About 2.45pm on Wednesday, January 13, a 52-year-old woman was driving a Hyundai Veloster on Sawtell Rd at Boambee East, when the vehicle left the road and collided with a fence.

Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital, where a blood sample was taken.

On Friday police received official confirmation the 52-year-old woman had a blood alcohol content of 0.486.

She was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for high-range PCA, to appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court on May 2.

The woman's licence has been seized and she has been issued with a licence suspension notice.

Detective Inspector, Darren Jameson, Crime Manager Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command says he believes the PCA reading is the highest on record in NSW.

"Drink-driving is a very serious offence and not only risks the safety of the driver, but also all other road users," Det Insp Jameson said.

"This is the highest PCA we've ever recorded."
