Early start to Mitchell Creek festival
THE venues and time slots are all full for the Mitchell Creek Rock and Blues Festival, except for one.
And music fans will have the chance to hear some of the contenders in the big "Sound Off" competition, with heat one tonight at Tremors night club, next to Charlie's Hotel.
A total of 50 bands have been engaged for the festival, to be held at Mitchell Creek, Upper Kandanga in the third week of September.
Festival promoter Jimmy Budgen said yesterday the Sound Off would select one finalist for a paid spot on the festival big stage.
The 2014 play-offs and a final will involve dozens of musicians playing to Tremors patrons.
The Sound Off contests will be held over the next three months, on the mid-month Friday night, starting tonight.
"Each play-off will have one winner selected on a people's choice basis, with one big Sound Off at the end, probably on a Sunday afternoon," he said.
There will also be lucky door prizes and a free pass to the festival to be won.
Dance competitions and dress style will also be judged.
Mr Budgen welcomed the support of Tremors owner Dan Kirkpatrick, who is also providing stage equipment, including amplifiers and drums.
Lee Turner of Blue Logic Studios will be doing the judging, with the action starting at 9pm.
