Eddie's perfect New Year's Eve party on the ABC
NEW Year's Eve celebrations will be a hoot with the ABC.
Aunty's annual live broadcast from Sydney will be hosted tonight by Eddie Perfect and Ella Hooper, with a colourful cast of helpers.
Presented from outside the Sydney Opera House and inside the Lord Mayor's Party at Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour, the four-hour live show is set to dazzle with a line-up of entertainment, comedy and music.
ABC Children's Humpty Dumpty and Justine Clarke will open the evening's proceedings at 8.30pm.
They will be joined by a cast of family favourites including Hoot and Hootabelle, the much-loved characters from Play School, live performances from Sheppard and the cast of the London Palladium Production's The Sound of Music, as well as appearances from special guests Jimmy Giggle, Bananas in Pyjamas and cast members from Studio 3, Bushwhacked!, Nowhere Boys and Ready For This.
At 9pm, the winner of ABC3's "Design your own Firework" competition, Emma Ianzano of Victoria, will press a button starting the Family Fireworks display featuring her own unique firework design
"Being down there on the harbour is going to be really lovely," Perfect told APN.
"That's what attracted me to it. I don't normally go out on New Year's Eve; I prefer thing to be quieter. I've never been to the fireworks on %the harbour before and my kids certainly haven't.
"Having a camera in my face and a microphone in my hand will be motivating (to stay awake), and then at midnight there will be a really loud bang and a lot of lights going on."
The Offspring favourite has a big year ahead of him as part of the new judging panel on Channel 9's revamped Australia's Got Talent.
The comedian's two young daughters, Kitty and Lottie Lux, are old enough now to recognise their dad is on TV when he pops up in the new AGT promos and Play School.
"I've been having a mini break with my kids (since filming wrapped on the AGT auditions) and they're like 'you're on TV'; I'd forgot about it," he laughed.
"In the theatre you get used to enjoying being in a moment and then letting it go never to see it again."
The ABC's annual pub quiz, airing during the New Year's Eve broadcast, will be all about reliving the most memorable moments of the year.
Hosted by Lawrence Mooney, this year's quiz features panellists Alan Brough, Michala Banas, Emma Alberici, Nazeem Hussein, Luke McGregor and Tom Ballard as well as special guests Barrie Cassidy, Marty Sheargold and Angela Bishop.
The teams will take an irreverent look back at the year that was, reviewing all the big news of 2015.
Then from 11pm, Perfect and Hooper will cross to music from The Falls Festivals before the clock strikes midnight and the skies over Sydney Harbour explode into a sea of colour.
The ABC's New Year's Eve broadcast starts at 8.30pm tonight.
