Emma wins coveted Girl Guide award
GYMPIE Girl Guide Emma Anderson has been awarded the 2017 Jacana Award.
Gympie Trefoil Guild presents the award each year to the girl who epitomises what being a Girl Guide is all about.
The presentation is a highlight of the Gympie District Girl Guides annual meeting.
To earn the Jacana Award a girl must be aged 12 years or over, live by the principles of the Girl Guide law and promise, and carry this into her day-to-day life.
Emma, who attends Ohana Ranger Guides every Tuesday, also helps at Aurora Guides every Wednesday as a Guide Helper.
She attends many weekend and holiday events, and is currently working towards her Baden Powell Award which involves completing many challenges in a range of fields.
The Jacana Award was started in memory of Gympie's Jean Cornes, who spent most of her life in Girl Guides and was still a member when she passed away.
Trefoil Guild is a group for women, who have been members of Girl Guides at some time, to get together socially.
