Mum’s violent outburst in Woolies shocks onlookers
Supermarkets remain one of the few places we can still visit amid COVID-19 restrictions, but they may not be the safest outing.
Shocking footage has emerged of the moment a mother took aim at Woolsworths staff, going on a violent rampage in a western Sydney outlet of the supermarket.
A video shared on social media shows a woman screaming abuse at staff in Cabramatta Woolworths while throwing other shoppers' bags to the ground.
Two children - thought to have been with the woman - watched from the sidelines as her outburst escalated.
Fellow shoppers watched in horror as the woman yelled, "F**k you and your staff, you dumb b**ch," to the nearest checkout lady.
The video was uploaded to Facebook with the caption: "Look at this barbarian … Yes those are her kids."
A security guard can be seen attempting to calm the woman, as the children watched nervously behind her.
It's unclear what caused the angry outburst. The man who uploaded the original video said he did not know what angered the woman and "just saw her slowly getting more aggressive", but praised staff for the way they handled the situation.
Another local community page that later shared the video claims the man with the trolley was actually her husband.
Different versions of what happened have surfaced among the video's 600 comments, including claims it all started when another woman brushed past her at the cashier, not telling her where the bags were.
This latest outburst comes amid a slew of reports of customers abusing shop workers and each other, despite the government urging people not to "panic buy".
Commenters empathised with supermarket workers - including those in this video - who have to deal with irate customers on a daily basis.
"It's not their fault that the shelves are empty and their work day is hard enough without constant harassment and abuse, so if you're someone that does it, please stop," wrote one social media user.
After seven weeks of panic-buying, stock levels of essential supermarket items are slowly returning to normal.
Shortages - particularly of toilet paper and pasta - have led to customers taking their anger out on staff and other shoppers, with several instances of brazen physical fights in the aisles over scarce and sought-after items.
