Ford Ranger Raptor gets go-ahead for 2018
Labelled by Ford as the "ultimate performance off-road truck", the Ranger Raptor will arrive next year.
The purpose-built, desert-racing inspired pick-up truck will join the Ford Performance family.
Designed and engineered to deliver an adrenaline pumping experience, Raptor is forecast to feature a tough exterior and off-road performance "never before seen in the mid-size pick-up truck segment".
"We are very excited to bring Asia Pacific's toughest and smartest pick-up truck to a whole new level," said Ford Asia Pacific's Trevor Worthington.
"Ford Ranger Raptor will offer Ranger fans a fantastic opportunity to own an authentic off-road performance version of their favourite truck for the first time."
Ranger Raptor joins F-150 Raptor to advance the globally renowned Ford Performance DNA, complementing the on-road high performance line-up of Ford GT, Ford Mustang Shelby, Focus RS and Focus ST.
As reported two weeks ago, the Raptor will be pitched against a Holden Special Vehicles-enhanced Colorado and a new modified TRD HiLux with tougher looks inside and out, bigger wheels and tyres, overhauled suspension and performance brakes.
It's expected to be powered by a version of the current 3.2-litre five-cylinder diesel.
