General consensus at AGM but not everybody is happy
IT SEEMS the RSL plan to buy and relocate to the Gympie Pines Golf Club was generally met with approval at the annual general meeting on Sunday, though there were some clearly surprised that plans had progressed as far as they had without any input from most members and that the matter was not going to be put to the vote.
I know very little about the operation of the RSL but it does seem not everyone is happy. There are some grumblings about the way this is all playing out, and the suggestion even that the club's modern membership has forgotten why it was established in the first place.
While one can not blame the "business” side of the RSL for wanting to find the way to best meet the demands of its customers and to grow into the future, it is also important to remember who the profits of the club were originally intended for - our veterans and the families of those veterans who paid the ultimate price in their service to country.
Whatever the outcome, and whatever path the RSL takes, let's hope our veterans and their families remain the number one priority, because it would be hard to find a single person who could or would argue that our returned service personnel do not need and deserve as much support as is possible.
