‘Get out now!’ Business destroyed by fire

A BRISBANE laundromat has been destroyed by fire overnight, forcing neighbours to be evacuated as fire crews battled to contain the blaze.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the corner of Beaudesert Road and Muriel Avenue in Moorooka around 4.30 this morning, with nine crews attending at the peak of the blaze.

A QFES spokeswoman said six fire trucks remain on scene and crews are continuing to dampen hot spots.

The family owners of the Moorooka family business on the corner of Beaudesert Road and Muriel Avenue are said to be devastated, having run it for the past 11 years.

Neighbours of the property were woken by rescuers banging on their door, calling for them to get out immediately as the threat of the fire spreading grew.

"We just had a neighbour from across the road banging on our front door just saying 'wake up, get out of the house'," resident Daniel Branthwaite told 9 news.

Muriel Avenue between Beaudesert Road and John Bright Street remains closed, with motorists advised to avoid the area if possible.

Police are also investigating a fire at a dry cleaning business in Mitchelton, after emergency services were called to reports of a fire in part of the building around 2.30 this morning.

The fire was out by around 2:45, but a QPS spokesperson said a crime scene has been declared around the Blackwood Street business until investigators arrive today.
