Guy Sebastian raises bar with new album, arena tour

GUY Sebastian is backing himself in a big way with his new album and arena tour.

The ARIA Award-winning artist and Australian Idol winner hopes to fill some of the country's biggest venues including Rod Laver Arena and Perth Arena.

His eighth studio album, Madness, is out today and features collaborations with 2Chainz, on the current single Mama Ain't Proud, up-and-coming Melbourne artist Fatai and Lupe Fiasco, with whom he first teamed up with on his platinum single Battle Scars.

"I'm very anxious," Sebastian told APN.

"I'm not going to use giving birth as an analogy, but I've carried this thing for two years and I have put a lot into it.

"I've become very aware that I have to steer the ship. That mentality of 'yeah that sounds pretty good' is not going to get me as far as 'is this the best I can ever make it?' When you approach everything with excellence it takes a lot more toil but the end result is something you can be much more proud of."

With some international artists struggling to sell out their Australian tours, Sebastian admits his six arena shows scheduled in February are a financial risk.

"I am backing myself," he said.

"At the end of the day the worst case scenario is I take a huge leap of faith and it either works or it doesn't. I'm still putting on a massive show I'll always be proud of."

The father-of-two is up for two gongs at next week's ARIA Awards for Song of the Year (Like A Drum) and Best Male Artist.

Guy Sebastian plays the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on February 14, 2015.
