Gympie MMA superstar teases her next fight in the US

MMA: World-conquering Gympie mixed martial artist Arlene Blencowe has given multiple glimpses into her immediate fighting future after last September's triumphant TKO victory in her return bout against American Amber Leibrock.

The former Amamoor local, also known by her formidable nickname "Angerfist”, had her social media thumbs twitching when she first teased a return to the octagon on Facebook last month.

"Match me please ... me and my team are over here doing the work ... just waiting for the call up. The (number four) featherweight in the world wants to punch face,” Blencowe addressed Bellator MMA, the USA-based organisation she has fought with since 2014.

GYMPIE FIGHTER'S PRO RETURN ENDS IN BRUTAL KNOCKOUT

The 35-year-old followed up her initial request with a direct callout to featherweight rival Amanda "The Ladykiller” Bell, even setting a prospective date for their match-up.

"Lesssgo (sic). Quick turnaround for April 27th in San Jose, California?” she wrote.

"You and your team don't need no fight plan ... y'all know I'm gonna stand and bang.”

Blencowe tagged the official Bellator Facebook page, and promotion president Scott Coker in the post.

Another post late last month featured Imagine Dragons lyrics and the most exciting indication to her 9000+ Facebook followers yet.

"Whatever it takes, 'cause I love the adrenaline in my veins, I do whatever it takes, 'cause I love how it feels when I break the chains.

"Fight announcement coming real soon!”

Whether that fight is against Bell remains to be seen, but Blencowe certainly seems keen to back up her brutal Bellator 206 victory over Leibrock as soon as possible.

After weathering an early storm, Blencowe turned the tables on her 31-year-old opponent in Round 3.

She escaped Leibrock's armbar submission attempt, lifted her in the air and dropped her head-first on the canvas, raining blows on her head until referee Herb Dean called a stop to the contest.

Blencowe was overcome with emotion as she reacted to the stoppage and had her arm raised in victory.

The win took her professional record to 11 wins and seven defeats nearly a full year after she lost her shot at the Bellator Women's Featherweight Championship against Julia Budd in December 2017.

Bell got her own TKO victory over Leibrock last month at Bellator 215.

Stay tuned to The Gympie Times as we follow the next step in Arlene's MMA journey.
