Have we lost our concern for others?
WHAT has happened?
As years have gone by and our society has taken a more pluralist approach to life, we have seen the decay of our moral fabric and I believe a loss of respect in general.
Please do not think I am another old man having a whinge or decrying how wonderful the old days were. They weren't always wonderful.
As I go about my day I see a lot of people come and go in the street I live. Just last week a family moved across the street and down a bit.
I've noticed a few teens, a big lump of a lad with dark hair and some smaller younger kids.
Just yesterday I witnessed this young man engage in a very loud, very emotional argument with a teenage girl. The blue continued up the street complete with expletives and threats of violence.
Last Friday night the residents across the road held a party.
Complete with illegal parking, youth walking the street yelling and leaving empty beer bottles and cartons up and down the street and on peoples property. I called the police but they never arrived.
There always seems to be someone somewhere yelling, driving dangerously/speeding, living their life without concern for how that may impact another.
And, we in general turn the cheek because we are afraid of being labelled a whinger or for fear of retribution.
I'm not sure how we got to this point of being so thoughtless (not all of us, I agree) but it saddens me.
Worse, I know there is nothing I can do about it.
