'Huge mistake': Local fires up over Macca's 'backwards' move

A SUNSHINE Coast man has vented his frustration at a fast food giant after it removed a "healthy" breakfast item he had grown to love.

Eric Frei wrote to McDonald's this week to complain that the $2.50 BLT McMuffin was no longer on the menu at his local restaurants.

"I visit the Kuluin Macca's or Maroochydore Macca's, pretty religiously for six years to have a coffee, read the papers and also have a portion-controlled, fairly nutritious meal," Mr Frei wrote to McDonald's.

"The BLT had some greens, bacon, a muffin and only had about 800KJ, now look at the other artery blockers to choose from and their price."

Mr Frei said the BLT McMuffin was much more nutritious than other items on the breakfast menu.

Mr Frei said he would spend $7.75 each morning for a large long black and a breakfast with under 1000KJ.

"It's enough nutrition to get you started for the day, not overloaded with fat or sugar," he said.

Mr Frei said making his own muffin from ingredients listed on the menu was unavailable, and would still cost more than the BLT.

"I see (removing the BLT) as a huge mistake. Sure muffins, bacon, lettuce and tomato are fairly common items to have in stock for breakfast," he said.

"It was bad enough when the wholemeal muffins went, now this.

"Do you people even give a crap about obesity and nutrition? Huge, backward move. Terrible."

McDonald's Australia has been contacted for comment.
