Gympie jockey dies following fall on Sunshine Coast track
EXPERIENCED jockey Desiree Gill has died after falling from her horse during a race at a Sunshine Coast race course on Saturday evening.
The 45-year-old from Gympie suffered serious injuries in the fall at Corbould Park
She died later in hospital.
Desiree was the 2011/12 and 2012/13 South-East Queensland Country Premiership Jockey of the Year amongst her many career achievements.
Racing Queensland said she was a highly experienced and respected jockey whose untimely deathly has shocked and deeply saddened the racing industry.
"She was widely admired and loved for her passion for the racing industry and in particular, her commitment to developing the next generation of jockeys," a statement sent out Sunday morning read.
"Desiree enjoyed a distinguished riding career spanning 30 years which included a period of employment with Racing Queensland mentoring and educating apprentice jockeys."
Desiree is survived by her husband Barry and two sons.
