Junior league ready for big season

GYMPIE Junior Rugby League is gearing up for a very exciting 2010 season.

Under 16 and 18 representative squads are already training on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 5pm at Jack Stokes Oval under the professional guidance of former Gympie Devils captain coach Darren Burns.

The players in these squads are hoping for places in the Gympie/South Burnett team to play at a carnival to be staged at Wondai on February 27 and 28.

From this carnival, the boys are hoping for selection into the QRL Central Division Side to go on and play further representative rugby league in the 2010 season.

Any Under 16 or 18 boys wishing to join these squads are still able to. For further information, contact Ross Groundwater on 0448 163 339.

The first sign on day for junior rugby league is set down for Saturday, February 6, running from 10am to 2pm at Jack Stokes Oval.

Another sign on day is set down for Sunday, February 14 from 10am to 2pm.

As of Thursday, February 11, the clubhouse will be open from 4pm to 5.30pm on a weekly basis.

Gympie Junior Rugby League’s mini-mod competition is played each Sunday at Jack Stokes Oval.

This competition is open for children (boys and girls) aged between 7 and 12 years.

This year, some of the 11 and 12-year-olds will even have the opportunity, on occasion, to play under lights on Friday night.

The 13 to 16-year-olds are involved in the Sunshine Coast competition, which sees the 13 and 14-year-olds playing each Saturday, and the 15 and 16-year-olds playing under lights on Friday night.

After a very successful 2009 and season, the club is looking forward to an even bigger and better 2010 season of rugby league.
