Kilkivan pride shared online
KILKIVAN has laid claim to its own town anthem and music video, quickly scoring thousands of views on YouTube.
With a population of 690, Kilkivan joined more than 100 entries in the Australian Regional Community Competition - a joint initiative of Small Town Culture supported by the University of Southern Queensland.
Opening the door for passionate communities across the country, the competition was decided by the number of votes received on Facebook.
Up for grabs was a town anthem and music video created by Josh Arnold and his talented team.
Kilkivan succeeded in earning the most votes (3000) and Monday night the anthem and music video were revealed before an excited crowd gathered in the Kilkivan Town Hall.
Dubbed A Little Piece of Heaven, the video features Jasmin Farrow, 15, and Olivia Nolan, 18, singing in the music clip.
The anthem and accompanying music video capture the country brilliance that is Kilkivan.
Long dirt country roads, creeks, horses and distinct Kilkivan landmarks all feature in the nearly three-and-a-half minute video.
Kilkivan residents make an appearance, including eager Kilkivan State Primary School students.
Since the video was released on YouTube on Monday, thousands of views have been registered.
As of 4.30pm yesterday afternoon, the video had been watched 2606 times.
"Never been prouder to say I call the Wide Bay region home," Jess Lambert posted in the video's comments. "This is great country pride."
