Lap of victory

It has been a season of thrills and spills for the Mother Mountain speedway and for the final time this year ,the roar of engines could be heard.

The 2016 season has been one of the most successful for Gympie drivers in recent years, with several state and national champions being crowned from the region.

After being washed out in the previous meet, the V8 Super Sedans did not disappoint the large Gympie crowd which gathered to cheer on Sean Black and Matt Williams, who started the feature race on the front row.

An epic battle developed between the two, until half way through the event, Williams was able to get clear and go on to record a convincing feature win.

The series has proved close all year and the final result remained in doubt until the last two laps of the feature final.

The Corbet's Energy Services Production Sedan 20/20 provided even more highlight for speedway fans.

The gun team of Tim Atkin and Gavin Lorensen finished the feature races in the lead to record yet another win.

Tim and Matty Smith were equally as brilliant in getting their Skyline into second position.

Chris Pagel and rookie Brock Ambrose were very impressive to come home in position three.

The solid field of Modified Sedans did not disappoint the crowd either, as they provided entertainment as only Modifieds are able.

Aidan Raymont returned to the winner's circle with a feature win after a race-long battle with Glenn Pagel who came home second. Jessica Raymont filled the third placing.

Current Queensland champion Steven English recorded a fine Street Stock feature race win following an all-the-way tussle with Travis Hutchison who finished second.
