Lessons to learn from election
PERCEPTION is reality.
Leaders and civic bodies such as the Gympie Regional Council not only have to do the right thing, they have to be seen to be doing the right thing.
And they have to listen to the concerns of those who elect them - it may be "chatter", but politicians ignore "chatter" at their own peril.
Campbell Newman and the LNP learnt that the hard way.
Our mayoral candidates would do well to also heed that lesson.
Listen to what this community is saying.
Don't tell us you know better.
Arrogance is a character trait that does not go down well with voters.
Nor does unnecessary secrecy.
Perhaps there is nothing "broken" in our council - nothing that needs "fixing".
But that is not the perception many people in this region have.
