Let them know that we care

THE drought hitting our region at the moment might not seem too bad to most of us residing in built-up areas in the Gympie region.

Borumba Dam still has plenty of water due to last year's flooding rains, and the Mary River continues to flow.

Unfortunately farmers to the west of Gympie don't have the luxury of a major dam or rivers to help them irrigate and keep their crops and stock alive.

Even Cedar Pkt Dam, situated in our normally green eastern zone, is getting close to empty and the Wolvi area is as dry as I have ever seen it.

Today's call from local church leaders asking Gympie residents to pray for rain, depending on what you believe, may or may not make a difference.

One thing it will do is let farmers know they are not forgotten and that people in our region care.
