Man charged over Koumala fire

A NEBO man has been charged over the arson of a Koumala property earlier this year.

Police allege between July 5 and July 7, two men, including Curtis Phillip Meiert, set fire to a residence in Lally Road, leaving the property "totally destroyed".

Meiert, 25, faced Mackay Magistrates Court in custody on Monday, after being brought upstairs from Mackay Watch-house.

He has also been charged with stealing a truck and quad-bike at Koumala between July 3 and July 7, a car at Alligator Creek on July 3 and a second car at Mia Mia between June 29 and July 14.

Meiert is also alleged to have stolen keys from Alligator Creek General Store on July 3 and a toolbox and drink from a Koumala home between July 3 and July 7.

Police also allege Meiert entered a Koumala home with intent to commit an offence between July 3 and July 7.

In more charges, dated Sunday, Meiert has been accused of possessing the drug ice, possessing marijuana, possessing a drug pipe and two counts of possessing drug utensils.

No pleas were entered.

Represented by duty lawyer Victoria Meechan, Meiert (who's also facing unrelated charges laid earlier this year) applied for bail, which was denied by Magistrate Damien Dwyer.

Prosecutor Anna Ellis had opposed bail, and tendered supporting documents to the court.

Meiert's case was adjourned to November 27.
