A MASSIVE 1.5m lace monitor has been found hiding out under a child's bed after raiding the Sunshine Coast family's chicken coop.

Snake catcher Stuart McKenzie was called in to wrangle the lizard.

"This big healthy lace monitor was out in the families yard harassing the chickens so the home owner decided to try and scare him off," he said.

"In the meantime, because of all of the commotion their dog pushed open the screen door and the goanna got into the house through the now open screen door and into one of the kids bedrooms."

The family called in Mr McKenzie, who found the lizard hiding under the bed.

With nowhere for the monitor to go, Mr McKenzie was soon able to extract the "massive" reptile.

But the fight wasn't over, with the monitor's strong tail landing an unfortunate whack on Mr McKenzie "between the legs" before it was bundled into a container for relocation.

The monitor was a regular visitor to the property, and had been eating all the chicken eggs for some time.

Mr McKenzie estimated the monitor to be "at least" 1.5m long, but said lace monitors could grow up to 2.4m.

He posted the video to the The Snake Catcher 24/7 - Sunshine Coast page on Facebook.
