Michelle Landry to deliver pineapples to every Federal MP
MICHELLE Landry wants to give Australian politicians a taste of Central Queensland - literally.
The Member for Capricornia plans to hand-deliver a locally grown pineapple to every Member of Parliament and Senator in a novel campaign she has dubbed "Pines for Parliament".
While the delivery date is yet to be finalised, Ms Landry will source the fruit from Tropical Pines in Yeppoon and transport them to Canberra.
"The main aim is to demonstrate that CQ is diverse and much more than just the important industries like coal and beef," she said.
"It encompasses the tropical edge of Queensland as well.
"This is about promoting the region and all it has to offer and this is the first step.
"We had to pick somewhere to start and I thought what better way than to give them a taste of our fresh beautiful pineapples."
In her maiden speech to Parliament in December, Ms Landry focused on the variety of the region's primary production.
She said if Capricornia was served up in a restaurant, diners would feast on crocodile medallions from one of Queensland's premier croc farms; reef and beef, featuring premium CQ tiger prawns fresh from the trawler, and the world's best beef; and a course of tropical fruit desserts, enhanced with natural cane sugar.
Ms Landry wants to make the presentation of CQ produce to her fellow politicians a regular event.
She is keen to hear suggestions from the region's primary producers about what the next offering should be.
