Millions of dollars in upgrades on the way for key roads
MAJOR roadways which act as key connectors for Coast drivers are set for millions of dollars worth of upgrades.
Acting Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Ryan confirmed almost $6 million worth of roadworks would start later this month.
Road crews will start working on upgrades to Mooloolaba Rd at Buderim and Nicklin Way, Aroona, in the next few weeks.
Mr Ryan said $4.8 million would go to overhauling Mooloolaba Rd, between Deloraine Dr and Syd Lingard Dr, while $1.08 million would deliver safety upgrades for the Nicklin Way and Beerburrum St intersection at Aroona.
Rehabilitation, resealing and line marking will be carried out to improve the road surface along the busy stretch of Mooloolaba Rd, which carried more than 18,500 drivers each day, with works due to be finished by April, weather permitting.
Works on the Aroona intersection involve providing dedicated on-road bike lanes on all approaches to the intersection and installing signalised pedestrian crossing facilities on the northern and western leg and zebra crossings on slip lanes.
The Nicklin Way intersection upgrade is due wrap up by mid-2020.
