Hungry? Check out this new bakery opening today
SUCCESS never smelled sweeter for qualified bakers, Walter Woods and Lisa O'Brian.
"I got sick of working for someone else and we wanted to strike out on our own," Walter said.
That's when they discovered 2/1 Birdwood Avenue.
The location, just off the highway, used to be a bakery almost 20 years ago and since then has had a succession of different businesses operate from the premises.
"There were four awnings out the front and when we pulled one down we noticed it had 'Bakery' written on it. I took that as a bit of an omen," he said.
And so Mi-Bakery was born.
Between them they have the skills required, with both Walter and Lisa trade qualified bakers and Lisa also qualified as a pastrycook.
And the aim is to focus on old fashioned favourites.
"Can't get a decent cream bun anymore. We want to make cream buns like you remember them. And chocolate eclairs. And bar cakes; you know? Rainbow cakes, Napoleon cakes, that kind of thing," Walter said.
The couple also plan to source all of their produce locally and use time honoured traditions for their recipes.
The bakery will be open five days a week from Tuesday to Saturday, 5am to 2pm at this stage.
The grand opening of Mi-Bakery is on today.
