New look chamber gets started

GYMPIE'S new look Chamber of Commerce gets a lot of its new look from Ben Riches of Enriches Business, who helped design a new website and logo representing the history, present and future of the region.

He says the chamber and its networking benefits will be accelerated in the coming year and will be "an incubator for what is possible in the Gympie region".

Outgoing chamber president Ben Ellingsen handed over to the incoming Sally Garrahy and took his opportunity as "free coffee sponsor" to talk about his Ellingsen Partners accountancy business.

"Some people say accountants are boring," he said.

"I'm a bit different," he insisted.

"I've taken on a role as campaign manager for the LNP candidate in the federal election, Llew O'Brien, who is here today.

"I felt I couldn't fulfil a role in an apolitical group like the chamber while performing a political function.

Mrs Garrahy enthused about the future, including yesterday's Growers Market marking its first birthday, and introduced speakers including Winter on Mary night shopping promoter Tony Goodman, among others.

Mr Goodman said the promotion had attracted 4000 people to its autumn event.
