Not all opposed to Oman Ama nuclear: Springborg
DURING his discussions with Oman Ama residents, Southern Downs MP Lawrence Springborg said one thing has been made clear - not everyone is against the nuclear waste proposal.
There are myriad views on the proposed nuclear waste facility, according to Mr Springborg.
"I'm coming across people supportive of it in the local area, people opposed and people making up their mind," he said.
"There are a range of people who are quite opposed, but the people who are in favour aren't speaking out.
"People want more information, they have a right to have concerns and have them addressed."
Speaking about the Friends of Oman Ama's letter to Minister Josh Frydenberg, Mr Springborg said he believed the biggest community concern was the intermediate level waste.
"Many people are quite comfortable with low level, they're more concerned about intermediate," he said.
"The smaller amount of intermediate waste is the major sticking point for a significant number of people."
The MP has attended both community information sessions in Inglewood, listening to both sides of the debate.
"I've been at both community meetings and I've reinforced the point if there's not broad community support, the government won't go ahead with it," he said.
