Our hearts go out to Gill family
THE tragic death of Gympie jockey Desiree Gill after a racing accident at Caloundra on Saturday has hit the Gympie community hard.
Desiree and her husband Barry seem to have been in the racing game in Gympie forever.
The pair has always been great supporters of The Gympie Times and despite early starts and busy schedules, at their Southside stables, has always made time to talk to the paper to promote their sport.
Desiree has been an amazing advocate for country racing in our region. Whether on the track winning races, mentoring young jockeys or at job expos espousing the virtues of working in the industry, she always left a positive impression.
She is a huge loss and will leave a big hole at the Gympie track.
Our hearts go out to Barry and her sons Peter and Ryan.
