Palmer throws Australian journalist out of press conference
FLAMBOYANT Sunshine Coast MP Clive Palmer has had a journalist thrown out of a press conference - before a question had been asked.
Mr Palmer was in Perth yesterday as the state's governor declared a re-run of Western Australia's Senate election.
The Member for Fairfax's Palmer United Party was at the heart of the second election, after a successful High Court challenge involving missing ballots.
Before a press conference he called had started, Mr Palmer had journalist Nick Perpitch from The Australian newspaper ejected, saying his publication was antagonistic. Asked why he had thrown Mr Perpitch out, Mr Palmer said he did not recognise the publication.
"We don't recognise The Australian as a newspaper, as simple as that," he said.
"Mr (Rupert) Murdoch is unhappy that I don't support Tony Abbott as prime minister."
The Australian has run reports critical of Mr Palmer.
Should Clive Palmer be allowed to select which media outlets cover his press conferences?
This poll ended on 01 March 2015.
Of course. His press conference – his rules.
I’m not sure. Sending a journalist out seems a bit too much.
Of course not. He can’t have everything his own way.
No. Maybe the media should boycott him.
