Queen of boogie’s love for Jumpers and Jazz

SHE'S travelled to festivals across the globe, but for Australia's queen of the piano, Jumpers and Jazz has a special place in her heart.

Jan Preston is returning to Jumpers and Jazz this year, bringing her fun, fast and uplifting boogie piano tunes to the streets of Warwick.

Describing the festival as one of the coolest and grooviest she's played at, Ms Preston said she was looking forward to coming back.

"I just love being there," she said.

"I love the ambience, all the art, the art gallery, the streets and the sense of the community.

"I play festivals large and small in New Zealand, Australia and Europe, but Jumpers and Jazz has a special place in my heart - it's so unique."

Playing three shows at Bryson's Place, including the Party on Palmerin St, Ms Preston aims to uplift the audience.

"We've all got issues, stresses and sadnesses in our life," she said.

"Boogie piano is a way of releasing the difficulties in life and having some fun."

The show also has some poignant moments, with Ms Preston throwing in a little bit of classical Chopin for the audience.

But it's her boogie woogie that really gets the crowd moving.

"It's happy and energetic," she said.

"It really gets their toes tapping."

After a career spanning more than 40 years, Ms Preston is hoping for many more years of performing ahead.

"I hope to be able to continue if my arms, shoulders and fingers can handle it," she said.

"Boogie piano is a very energetic style, it's like pianistic weightlifting - the hands do get quite a pummelling.

"I just love it, it does exactly to the audience what it does it to me."

Ms Preston will play her two shows at Bryson's Place on Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30 from 5pm to 8pm.

Tickets are $30.

She will also perform at Bryson's for the Party on Palmerin St on Saturday, July 30.

Tickets for that show are $80 a person, including a three course meal and four complimentary drinks.
