Rainbow Beach needs a golf course
MONDAY'S announcement by Natural Resources Minister Andrew Cripps that the Queensland Government will take back land currently leased by Rainbow Shores Pty Ltd has caught many by surprise - even Gympie Regional Council.
The problem for Rainbow Beach residents is the decision could leave the town without a golf course.
The course is a major asset to Rainbow; a tourist draw card that can't afford to be lost.
If no one steps in, the golf course will be handed back to the government to be sold for property development. The only solution seems to be if the council asks the State to gift the community the land and reinstate the golf course. A club could be set up and the members run the course. It seems to me it would be a win for all involved; even the current residents of Rainbow Shores.
