Billy Rogers reunites with his old Outlaw mates

What is it like being back playing for Gympie?

It is different this year because of the joined Noosa Gympie side but has been awesome so far and both clubs are getting along really well. I am excited to be back playing with some of my best mates like Kurt Fleming, Riley McDowell and many more previous Devils players.

When was the last time you played with the Devils?

Last time I played for the Gympie Devils was in 2012. However 2011 was the first year I returned home after playing in the NRL teams.

How many NRL teams did you play in?

I went where opportunities arose and where I could play my best footy. I first started playing in both reserve and U20's sides with the Brisbane Broncos before moving to the Melbourne Storm but only ever played first grade with the Parramatta Eels.

How do you think the Eels will go this year?

I would like to see them do well but at times they have been inconsistent.

Any players you think have stood out in the team?

Chris Sandow is playing strong and new young backrower Tepai Moeroa is impressive for his age.

Do you keep in touch with many of the players you have met through NRL?

I made a lot of good friends through football and keep in touch as much as I can.

Do they ask you if you would join the team again?

We never really talk about footy we mainly talk about everyday stuff.

Who do you think will make the NRL grand final?

Teams have started the year strong and anyone could get there. We have seen a lot of changes in league so I wouldn't call it this early.

How do you think the Northern Outlaws will do this season?

It is a pretty strong side but it is hard to say without knowing many teams in the Sunshine Coast competition but I would say we would be a competitive side.

Are you struggling with any injuries?

I have previously had a sternum injury but it has healed now. At the moment I have a small crack in my rib but it will not be an issue.

What have you been doing between 2012 and now?

I took the last two years off to concentrate on my apprenticeship with Energex.

Do you still have ambitions to play league at a higher level?

Not an ambition but I would not knock it back if given the opportunity.

How long have you played league for?

I started playing when I was six or seven at the local club in Augathella before moving to Gympie when I was 12 and played there until I left for Brisbane after I finished school.

In Brisbane I played for the North Devils and Aspley Devils before playing for what was the reserve grade Broncos teams the Colts and Queensland cup for potential players.

Who introduced you to rugby league?

My dad was a massive rugby league fan and my two older brothers were already playing.

What would you say are your proudest achievements in the sport?

Probably my debut first grade match with the Parramatta Eels against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
