School’s in for new Gympie Regional Council
GYMPIE region's newly declared councillors will meet for the first time within two weeks, Mayor Mick Curran said yesterday.
But they will begin working together well before then, starting with an orientation session on Tuesday.
Former Noosa and Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot, who steered the Sunshine Coast Regional Council through its amalgamation process, will be helping the new councillors learn the technicalities of council governance, standing orders, (relevant) legislation and meeting procedure.
"Bob Abbot has worked with the Local Government Association of Queensland and is very well-respected," Cr Curran said yesterday.
"Their orientation will also include how council works and tours of the region to show the new people council facilities across the region," he said.
Overall Gympie Regional Council election results were declared last week.
