Senator Joyce will not resign from Senate immediately
QUEENSLAND Senator Barnaby Joyce will not resign immediately if he wins pre-selection for the lower house seat of New England.
Senator Joyce was one of only two people to nominate for Nationals pre-selection, with Tamworth businessman and former teacher David Gregory the other.
The pre-selection ballot will be held in Tamworth on April 13, with the winner going on to try and unseat independent Tony Windsor at the federal election.
A spokeswoman for Senator Joyce said he would resign from the Senate closer to writs being issued for the election on August 12.
"Barnaby still has three shadow portfolios which he has to manage, staff and a family to support during this period," the spokeswoman said.
Senator Joyce has three years to run on his Senate term.
