Seven food facts we bet you didn't know

YOU probably already know kale is a wonder-vegetable and chia seeds may just change your life, but when it comes to knowing all there is to know about food and nutrition, are you really as educated as you think?

With endless celebrity fads and diets flooding our lives, it's hard to sort fact from fiction.

2.       Sports drinks can have more than 10 teaspoons of sugar in each bottle!

3.       Frozen and tinned vegetables can be just as healthy as fresh.

4.       Each gram of alcohol packs 29 kilojoules, so combined with pre-mix or soft drink, you've got double trouble.

5.       Tomato sauce has as much sugar as soft drink.

6.       Legumes and beans are good for weight loss.

7.       It actually costs more to eat processed foods than it does to eat healthy. For example: fresh bananas cost $3-5/kg versus processed fruit straps which cost about $45/kg.

And there's more where that came from. Get straight answers about nutrition, physical activity, weight and lifestyle here.
