SMOOTH SAILING: Iconic boat ready for relaunch
NOOSA’S iconic ferry may have been docked since March but after much anticipation it will finally toot its way down the river from this Friday.
Noosa Ferry will be running regular services beginning June 5 from Noosa Marina to Hastings St on freshly painted boats.
Ferry proprietor David Stielow said staff had been busy since closing on March 23 due to coronavirus repainting their fleet of three boats to update their look.
He said the updates enhanced the ferry’s existing timber works while modernising signage and colours.
“We have been able to repaint the inside and outside of all vessels, focus on the varnish work, as well as change external signage to new branding,” he said.
“The introduction of the Job Keeper (payments) allowed me to continuing employment for all our skippers and start a repainting and maintenance program that would be very difficult to do in normal operating circumstances.”
Mr Stielow purchased the business last year from Don McBryde, who began and operated the ferries since 1998.
“We’ve done some tweaking to the business since taking over including refinements to the branding and redesigning a new brochure but the nuts and bolts of the business has stayed the same.”
As part of the post-COVID relaunch, Noosa Ferry will introduce a locals frequent traveller pass.
“We were initially planning on launching this initiative prior to Easter but obviously COVID restrictions delayed the launch date.”
The pass will offer a 50 per cent discount on 10 trips throughout the year.
“We have also extended our child pricing to be up to 17 years, who can also travel with the pass holder at the 50 per cent reduced rate, so is a great value option for a day out on the water.”
Due to coronavirus limitations on the amount of people allowed on board, the ferry has increased the number of services they will operate every day of the week.
“Our goal is to provide more options to travel, which will minimise wait times and hopefully comfortably cater to demand.”
Sunset Cruises will also begin on June 5 with limited numbers along with private charters being available catering to smaller sized groups.
