SOLD?: New Gympie Golf Course five-year plan
ONE of Gympie city's largest privately owned properties and sports facilities, the Gympie Golf Course, has been sold, a spokeswoman for the new owners said yesterday.
And that is almost completely official
She did not confirm the identities of the new owners, believed to be prominent investors Phillip Goodman and Shaughn Murphy.
But in an emailed press release yesterday, she said there was no longer any doubt about the sale going through.
Details were being worked out and the transaction was expected to be completed by the end of the month, she said.
"The new owners are keen to continue operating this historic landmark property in Gympie and the region,” she said.
"To allow the golf course to continue to operate with a secure future the new owners propose to establish the Gympie Sports Club within the existing facilities.”
She said the club wanted to work closely with existing playing members and to increase membership.
"We want people to know it is open and they are welcome to come and play golf,” she said.
The club also wanted to work with other organisations "to bring more local and visiting golfers to this well regarded golf course”.
"There is a five year plan for future improvements and upgrades that are designed to offer all of the community a social venue and facilities for dining, functions and entertainment.
"A five-year plan of renovations and upgrades would deliver a venue for players and social members,” she said.
Further announcements would be made as the deal finalised.
Agent Joseph Codianni said the sale was still subject to detailed negotiations on a number of issues, described by the club spokeswoman as "details”.
There were "seven or eight issues” still being sorted out, Mr Codianni said.
These were connected to the townhouse development site included in the sale and a lapsed council approval.
