Spurs thrashing puts City on top of the EPL pile

MANCHESTER City has replaced Arsenal at the top of the English Premier League after a stunning 5-1 win at fifth-place Tottenham.

Sergio Aguero (pictured), Yaya Toure, Edin Dzeko, Stevan Jovetic and Vincent Kompany were on target as City moved one point clear of the Gunners.

Aguero has now scored 50 Premier League goals from 81 games, the fifth fastest man to a half century, behind Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Fernando Torres.

The result meant City scored 11 goals in the two league meetings against Spurs this season following the 6-0 win in Manchester.

Elsewhere, third-placed Chelsea lost ground in the title race after being held to a 0-0 draw at home by third-last London rival West Ham, while Aston Villa came from being 2-0 down to win the derby against West Brom 4-3 at Villa Park.

Sunderland moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 win over Stoke.
