Young Gympie bands making their mark
GYMPIE is experiencing a golden era of young musicians making waves in the industry.
X Factor breakout star Caitlyn Shadbolt and polished bands Amity Affliction and Red Beard, to name a few, are stamping their mark on the Australian music landscape.
The latest band making headlines in Sydney-based Noire, formed in early 2014.
Noire comprises of brothers Chris Stewart (bass) and Billy James (guitar) along with Jessica Mincher (keys and vocals).
Formally of Gympie, a move to Sydney has allowed the band to spread its wings and grow in confidence.
The band's latest venture is a new single - Just Like Honey.
And like most bands, social media is being used to promote the new material.
Fans right now can download the track for free from music sharing platform, Soundcloud, ahead of the official launch in Sydney on Thursday, July 2 at The Cliff Dive pub.
Just Like Honey was recorded with multi-ARIA award winning producer Wayne Connolly and features gentle synths, clear guitar and sleek bass progressions.
The song follows the band's success with earlier tracks Pilgrims and Those Days. Both songs were lauded with glowing reviews and solid play on Triple J Unearthed and Community Radio.
"That voice cuts right through," Triple J Unearthed's Dave Ruby Howe commented.
"A haunting new pop song from rising Sydney band, landing perfectly between hope and heartbreak," Rolling Stone Australia chimed in.
It is high praise from some of the Australian music industry's most respected commentators.
The trio's motto is borrowed from iconic artist Picasso (Everything you can imagine is real) and captures an outlook on life reflected in their music.
Helping inspire the band is a collection of artists and notable figures, including Vladimir Nabokov's Collection of Short Stories, Allen Ginsberg, Earnest Hemingway, Jeff Buckley, The Beatles, Kate Bush, Air and Phoenix.
"People are so good at making beautiful things," the band said.
The band's name, Noire, came about while producing demo songs.
"We were sending demos to our drummer and was classifying the genre as Pop Noir," the band said.
"He thought Noir was a cool name and suggested it."
An extra "E" at the end was added to make a feminine spelling.
