Teen dies on Fraser
FRIENDS and family of a Toogoolawah teen who drowned while kayaking off the coast of Fraser Island at the weekend have shared their love for him as they come to terms with his death.
Shawn Vogler's body was found on Sunday afternoon after a massive search by emergency services.
His kayak capsized on Saturday about 3.30pm and both police and the RACQ Rescue Helicopter were called in after he failed to resurface.
The beloved teen had a love for the outdoors and activities such as four wheel driving.
His former school, Toogoolawah State High School, took to Facebook on Monday to share a simple message of mourning.
"Vale Shawn Vogler. Our thoughts are with your family and friends," the school said.
The school also shared pictures of Shawn and friends from their 2013 formal at Woodlands of Marburg and community members shared their condolence messages.
"The boys went out for a casual kayak as everyone does when on holidays," friends said.
"The boys were both knocked from their kayaks. It deeply saddens us that unfortunately Shawn never surfaced after being knocked off."
We're going to miss you Shawny."
Friends have now launched a Gofundme account to help Shawn's family.
In a show of how much he was loved, members of the community donated more than $2000 to the account by Monday afternoon.
